As a Rosemount resident, everyday I witness the struggle of pedestrians attempting to cross one of our busiest roads, highway 3. It is very concerning as I personally witnessed many pedestrians (mostly young kids) sprint across this dangerous intersection to get to the other side. Almost getting hit by speeding traffic.

A pedestrian crossing is an urgent necessity at this location due to the high volume of pedestrians I've observed attempting to cross the road, especially during the school season as many are students.

I personally enjoy walking the pedestrian paths and have noticed as a walker, that there is no safe way to cross at this location but there is still pedestrian trails that lead right to it. A crosswalk here would connect the developing communities and ensure safety for pedestrians. 

According to data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, a pedestrian was killed every 85 minutes in traffic crashes in 2019 and the numbers have unfortunately spiked up since then. This alarming statistic underlines the severity of the issue we are facing. By installing a pedestrian crossing in our neighborhood, we would significantly decrease the likelihood of accidents, near misses, and pedestrian fatalities in our community. Especially at a busy, problematic intersection. 

As residents of Rosemount and as a community, we need to come together to guarantee the safety of pedestrians. A pedestrian crossing would not only secure the lives of residents but would also foster a more walker/runner friendly environment, encouraging more people to take advantage of the pedestrian infrastructure that is already there and enjoy our beautiful paths and parks.

This change directly impacts us, the citizens of Rosemount and it's surrounding communities. Let's prioritize safety, advocate for a  safe pedestrian crossing, and make Rosemount a safer place for everyone.
