Dear Supporters,
Thank you for your steadfast support as we continue to advocate for more inclusive and clear app approval policies from Apple. Unfortunately, we have another update highlighting the challenges faced by emulators on iOS.
Recent Development with UTM:
The team behind the UTM emulator recently shared an update on X (formerly Twitter) regarding their ongoing issues with Apple’s app review process. Here’s the key information:
Rejection Clarification:
Apple reached out to the UTM team to clarify that their app was rejected under rule 2.5.2. This rule generally covers technical issues and the efficient use of device resources.
Exception Under Rule 4.7:
Apple further explained that rule 4.7, which could potentially allow emulators, only applies to apps available on the App Store. Unfortunately, UTM SE does not qualify for this exception, leading to its rejection.
The Larger Issue:
This update from UTM highlights a recurring problem: the restrictive and often ambiguous nature of Apple’s app approval guidelines. Both Dolphin and UTM are facing similar hurdles, which prevent them from offering iOS users a legal way to enjoy classic and retro games.
Call to Action:
We must continue to push Apple to adopt clearer, more consistent policies that support the inclusion of high-quality emulators. These tools are essential for preserving and enjoying the history of gaming. Please keep sharing this petition and adding your voice to our cause.
Together, we can advocate for a change that allows iOS users the freedom to enjoy their legally owned games on their preferred devices.
Thank you for your dedication to this cause.
Sincerely,
M. B.
