Dear Supporters,
Thank you for your ongoing support as we advocate for more flexible app approval policies from Apple, specifically for emulators like Dolphin and iDOS. Unfortunately, we have encountered another setback, highlighting the need for continued pressure on Apple to adopt more consistent and reasonable guidelines.
Recent Developments with iDOS 3:
The team behind the iDOS emulator recently attempted to resubmit their application, iDOS 3, following Apple’s policy changes influenced by EU regulations. Here’s what happened:
Initial Submission Issues:
The iDOS team found that Apple had blacklisted iDOS 2, preventing them from even requesting a review under that name. They were forced to submit a new version, iDOS 3.
Rejection as "Design Spam":
Despite initially rejecting the submission for being similar to iDOS 2, Apple then rejected it again for being “design spam,” citing numerous similar submissions. This overlooks the fact that the iDOS team has a legitimate, original app with a long-standing history.
Inconsistent and Unclear Guidelines:
After persistent attempts to resolve the issue, the iDOS team received an update on May 8 stating that their app was under review but required additional time. However, by June 15, Apple contacted them to declare that iDOS did not qualify as a retro game console, thus not meeting the criteria for the new policy. When asked for specifics on how to comply, Apple could not provide clear guidance.
The Larger Issue:
This situation underscores a significant problem with Apple’s app review process: inconsistent enforcement and lack of transparency. Both Dolphin and iDOS face similar challenges, preventing them from providing users with legitimate, legal ways to enjoy classic games on iOS devices.
Call to Action:
We must continue to urge Apple to clarify and revise their policies to support the inclusion of high-quality emulators like Dolphin and iDOS. These tools are essential for preserving and enjoying the rich history of gaming. Please keep sharing this petition and adding your voice to our cause.
Together, we can push for change and ensure that iOS users have the freedom to enjoy their legally owned games on their preferred devices.
Thank you for standing with us.
Sincerely,
M. B.
