Puducherry Government Must Restore 3% MBBS Quota for Ex-Servicemen’s Children!

The Issue

Illustration of a soldier and his child facing a restricted entrance to Puducherry College. A signboard shows MBBS seats with only 1% reservation, while a security officer holds a stop sign, symbolizing denial of access. The image advocates for restoring the 3% MBBS quota for ex-servicemen’s children in Puducherry.

1. The Issue: Unequal Treatment in MBBS Admissions:

We are deeply concerned that the Puducherry Government has restricted the MBBS quota for ex-servicemen’s (ESM) children to just 1% (as per the 2024-25 Seat Matrix). Meanwhile, non-MBBS courses like B.Tech, B.Sc., and B.P.T. still have a fair 3% quota.

  • This injustice denies ESM children their rightful access to medical education—an opportunity earned through their parents’ sacrifices.

While other horizontal quotas—such as Freedom Fighters (4%), Persons with Disabilities (5%), and Meritorious Sports Person—are applied equally across all professional courses, including MBBS, ex-servicemen’s children face an unjust disparity, receiving only 1% in MBBS while retaining 3% in other courses.

2. Broken Promises & Unfulfilled Commitments:
On December 2021, Hon’ble Chief Minister N. Rangasamy promised to raise the MBBS quota to 3% for Ex-servicemen's children, as reported by Asianet News, ABP Nadu, and The Hindu Tamil, etc, ...
✅ "As of 2025, this promise remains unfulfilled."
✅ In 2009, the Kendriya Sainik Board (KSB) discussed a 5% ESM reservation for all States and Union Territories, as recorded on the Indian Air Force’s official website. Yet, Puducherry has not even implemented the promised 3% for MBBS admissions.

3. Urgent Need for Action Before NEET 2025
If this injustice continues, ex-servicemen’s children will continue to lose their rightful MBBS seats year after year. The NEET 2025 admissions process starts July, and without immediate action, another batch of ESM children will be forced to seek expensive private or foreign medical education, placing financial and emotional burdens on veteran families.

We Urge Immediate Action!

1️⃣ Restore the ESM MBBS quota to 3%, equal to other courses, honouring the CM’s 2021 promise.
2️⃣ Ensure fairness in upcoming NEET 2025 counselling onwards, so ESM children don’t lose their rightful MBBS seats.
3️⃣ We urge KSB, the Puducherry Government, CENTAC, and the Hon’ble Puducherry Governor to take immediate steps to review and address this issue—ensuring transparency and fair implementation of the 3% ESM quota in MBBS admissions.
