Background:  
Karuna shelter was started in 1888 as Bangalore Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals and was registered as society in 1916. The name was changed to Karuna Animal Welfare Association in 2001 -  to provide care & compassion to all animals in need. Karuna boasts of a strong backing from government officials involved in guidance of the shelter. Holding membership with WSAP England & Northshore Animal League (USA), Karuna claims to have all necessary facilities & trained personnel.

The Problem:
- Most that have tried to avail the services of this shelter have not had a good experience at all.

- The public is not allowed past the reception area. When people want to adopt animals from the shelter, they face many unreasonable restrictions. If they do adopt, then they are hit with a large fee & many who cannot afford leave disheartened unable to save an animal from its short miserable life at the shelter.

- The closed-door functioning of Karuna shelter lacking transparency, extracting huge amount of money from those who want to surrender a pet, surrendered pedigree dogs just disappearing - probably sold to breeders, the reluctance of the vets & staff there to make visitors feel comfortable with clear & open policies, surely indicates lots of irregularities.

- Many of the former employees (often afraid to talk), speak of the cold & pathetic shelter, little or no food, vastly overcrowded filthy cages, lack of timely treatment, healthy animals falling sick due to lack of hygiene in kennels, high rate of unwanted euthanasia & the list goes on. They speak of painful & desolate cries & howls of dogs that will haunt them for the rest of their days.

- Unfortunately, over the years, despite warnings, Karuna has proven to do anything but this.

What can you do?
Please sign this petition and urge your like-minded friends & family to do the same. It will assist us in our mission to:
1. Promptly close down this shelter and stop this horrendous cruelty.

2. Replace existing management & staff with compassionate individuals who work for the good of animals.

3. Put a stop to the needless & illegal euthanasia of healthy animals. Stop such tragedies immediately.

4. Nurse the current inhabitants back to health & help find forever homes for them.
