Petition updateNYS Parole Officers Should Join NYSCOPBAPension Parity: NYSCOPBA Seeks Optional 20-Year Retirement Plan for Correction Officers

Apr 1, 2026

Dear Parole Officers,

Currently, the New York State Correctional Officers & Police Benevolent Association (NYSCOPBA) is actively seeking an optional 20-year retirement plan for NYS Correction Officers at 50% of final average salary (FAS).

Unfortunately, the Public Employees Federation (PEF) is not seeking an optional 20 or 25 year retirement plan for NYS Parole Officers who also work with the same population as NYS Correction Officers.

For this reason, we believe it’s in the best interest of Parole Officers to join a law enforcement union like NYSCOPBA. Since PEF is dead set against Parole Officers joining NYSCOPBA, the only option Parole Officers have at the present moment is to stop paying union dues to PEF.

If a majority of Parole Officers withhold union dues from PEF, it could eventually force the union to release Parole Officers from its bargaining unit. This strategy was used by Albany Police Officers when they left their prior Labor union, Council 82.

Click here to learn more about how withholding union dues from PEF could benefit you.

Please share this petition update via social  media, email, text message and word of mouth. Also, share with PEF Parole Divison 236 Council Leader, G. Lopez at Glopez@pef.org  and PEF Legislative Director, Patrick Lyons at Plyons@pef.org.

In solidarity,

New York State Parole Officers
