Petition updateNYS Parole Officers Should Join NYSCOPBAMAKE PAROLE GREAT AGAIN!
New York State Parole Officers
Nov 8, 2024
  • Dear Supporters,

Now that the presidential election is over, we are cautiously optimistic that the U.S. Supreme Court will hear the case of Goldstein vs. Professional Staff Congress/CUNY. This case is very important to New York State Parole Officers because it could determine whether they can leave the Public Employees Federation (PEF) and join another labor union.  Under New York State’s 1967 Taylor Law, public employees are bound to “exclusive representation” by their designated government union.

In order to Make Parole Great Again, we strongly believe that Parole Officers should be represented by a powerful law enforcement union like the New York State Correctional Officers & Police Benevolent Association (NYSCOPBA).

NYSCOPBA would provide Parole Officers with stronger representation at the New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision (NYS DOCCS), higher wages and superior benefits. As we stated in the past, Parole Officers are the only peace officers at NYS DOCCS without a “25 & out” pension plan and unfortunately, PEF has not introduced legislation to secure this retirement benefit.

In addition, unlike PEF, NYSCOPBA does not support progressive politicians and their progressive criminal justice policies like “Less is More” parole reform. In fact, NYSCOPBA is aggressively fighting back against progressive criminal justice policies that negatively affect its members.

While we wait for the outcome of Goldstein vs. Professional Staff Congress/CUNY, we urge all Parole Officers, Senior Parole Officers and Parole Revocation Specialists to stop funding PEF by opting out here.

    In solidarity,

    New York State Parole Officers
