Petition updateNYS Parole Officers Should Join NYSCOPBAOpen Letter to NYSCOPBA President: Chris Summers

Dear President Summers,

Congratulations on being newly elected as president of the New York State Correctional Officers & Police Benevolent Association (NYSCOPBA). New York State Parole Officers wish you nothing but success during your three-year term.

As you are aware, many progressive policies like the "Humane Alternatives to Long-Term Solitary Confinement" Act (HALT Act) & "Less is More" parole reform have tied our hands and made our profession more dangerous.

Law enforcement is under siege and this is why Parole Officers are seeking to join forces with a powerful law enforcement union like NYSCOPBA to fightback against dangerous ‘criminal first’ policies approved by progressive Albany lawmakers.

Moreover, we believe that joining forces with NYSCOPBA would provide Parole Officers with stronger representation at the Department of Corrections & Community Supervision (DOCCS), superior benefits and safer working conditions.

Next year, we look forward to filing a petition with the Public Employment Relations Board (PERB) to make our case that Parole Officers should be represented by NYSCOPBA. We hope NYSCOPBA’s Executive Board and membership support our petition to join New York’s independent law enforcement union.

In solidarity,

New York State Parole Officers
