NYS Parole Officers, Senior Parole Officers & Parole Revocation Specialists:

Even though you may not be voting for Kathy Hochul on Election Day (November 8, 2022), if you are still paying Public Employees Federation (PEF) dues, your hard earned money is going towards her campaign for governor.

The PEF Executive Board voted June 9, 2022 to endorse Kathy Hochul for governor.  No other candidates were discussed, and the 12 PEF regional political action committees and the union’s statewide PAC had all recommended Hochul’s endorsement.

The PEF Executive Board was informed June 10, 2022 that Hochul called PEF president Wayne Spence to thank the union for its endorsement.

Since PEF is more of a political group, concerned more with itself and spreading money to anti-law enforcement politicians than an organization fighting for its parole members, we’re encouraging all active Parole Officers to stop paying dues and #DefundPEF.

Currently, there is close to 800 Parole Officers statewide who pay approximately $700 a year in PEF dues. If the majority of Parole Officers stopped paying dues, PEF would lose over $500,000 annually. This loss in revenue would force PEF to release Parole Officers from the union.

The best alternative for Parole Officers would be to join the New York State Correctional Officers & Police Benevolent Association (NYSCOPBA). Unlike PEF, all NYSCOPBA members are peace officers.

Since NYSCOPBA represents over 16,000 Correction Officers, Sergeants and Institution Safety Officers, we would have a stronger voice at DOCCS because there is strength in numbers.

Furthermore, Parole Officers would have a better chance at obtaining a 25 and out retirement plan since all NYSCOPBA members are entitled to this special retirement benefit.
