Today marks the 1-year anniversary of the signing of the disastrous “Less is More” parole reform act by Governor Kathy Hochul. Since enacted, over 8,000 convicted felons have been released from parole supervision (including sex offenders).
To make matters worse, Governor Hochul tried to take credit for being tough on crime when she ordered the arrest of paroled sex offender Bui Van Phu last month. What she failed to tell the public is that “Less is More” and “Bail Reform” contributed to this violent convicted sex offender being let out to walk the streets again.
Unfortunately, since the Public Employees Federation (PEF) turned its back on Parole Officers and endorsed Governor Hochul, we are taking matters into our own hands and endorsing U.S. Congressman Lee Zeldin for Governor of New York State. Click on the following link: https://zeldin.house.gov/about/full-biography to read more about Congressman Zeldin.
We are endorsing Zeldin based off his following agenda:
- Repeal Cashless Bail and Less is More Act
- Overhaul the Board of Parole/Parole Hearing process
- Require unanimous decisions by Parole Commissioners when determining parole status
- Replace members of the Parole Board who have expressed poor judgment
- Require consideration of 3rd party testimony from victims and victims’ families
- Enhance notification of Parole Board hearings
- Require Composition of Board of Parole families to appeal parole decisions
- Commissioners to be fairly structured, including victims’ advocates and law enforcement
- Appoint a New NYS DOCCS Commissioner
We're asking Parole Officers from New York City to Niagara Falls to share this update via social media, text message and email with your family, friends and colleagues. Our jobs and safety is at risk. We need to elect a governor who will put communities before criminals and secure our streets. https://zeldinfornewyork.com/issue/secureourstreets/
In solidarity,
New York State Parole Officers
