We are a non-profit organization and like many other small businesses and non-profits have been put out on the street due to the Covid-19 Pandemic.  This is bringing to light the lack of Commercial Tenancy Laws in the Province of Nova Scotia.  No formal notice is needed for eviction, no just cause is needed for eviction, and no procedure is needed for eviction of tenants for defaulting on their lease terms.  Even after making good faith payments throughout the pandemic AND securing a $7,000 provincial emergency grant, we are STILL being kicked out.  Our square footage continues to be reduced and our rent has not been adjusted and we continue to be charged exorbitant utility fees even for the months we were not operating due to government regulations.  Landlords are scamming the system and making money off of deferral programs and handouts.  The commercial tenancy laws have not been adjusted accordingly and Landlords hold ALL of the power whether THEY are in default of the lease themselves or not. Change is needed NOW!
