Hello everyone,

A word from our California Alliance for Adoptee Rights Team:

We’re in the Sacramento Bee!  Feel free to make a comment in the comment section of the newspaper article.

Big moment for SB 381 today: the Sacramento Bee just published a real, in-depth look at why this bill matters, featuring our own Lori Whisler Schultz, who shared her own decades-long journey to find her birth family and her hope for what this bill will mean for adoptees across the state.

Senator Aisha Wahab, herself an adoptee, called California’s current system a “tragedy” and a “shame.”

Marley Greiner said if this bill passes, “it’s going to make a huge difference nationwide.”

And Deborah Myers of Concerned United Birthparents put it simply:
“We’re not talking about children here anymore. We’re talking about grown adults who… are entitled to their records and their history and to know where they came from.”

SB 381 is now headed toward a critical Suspense File decision on August 13th.
