Provide suitable education for children with disabilities
Provide suitable education for children with disabilities
The Issue
I am the parent of a wonderful child who deserves a fair chance at education, just like every other child. Unfortunately, the current education system in our area, particularly with the local authority's actions, has denied my child this right. My child has specific educational needs and requires a specialised school setting to thrive, but the mainstream school setting has unjustly absorbed the funding while my child is unable to attend due to the lack of suitable provisions.
Despite numerous assessments and recommendations from professionals, the local authority has refused to recognise my child's disabilities and the need for a specialised educational setting. This has not only impeded my child's ability to learn but has also affected their emotional wellbeing and growth. The promise of an accessible education for every child, regardless of their abilities, is one that must be upheld by the local authorities—it's a fundamental right.
According to the Department for Education, every child in the UK is entitled to support that meets their needs. However, when the system fails to deliver, it's our children who suffer. Studies have shown that children with special educational needs excel when supported appropriately, contributing positively to society. The lack of recognition and placements not only violates my child's rights but also places an unnecessary burden on families who must fight tirelessly for what should be a given.
We need the local authorities to take immediate action: reassess my child's needs and provide a suitable educational placement that truly caters to their requirements. We also urge them to allocate the necessary funding to specialised schools that can provide targeted support rather than withholding this critical resource.
Each day that passes without action is another day a child's potential is hindered. I implore everyone who reads this to help make a difference. Sign this petition to urge the local authority to grant my child, and countless others like them, fair and equal access to the education they rightfully deserve.
