The Issue

As a deeply concerned member of the Springfield, Ohio community, I am writing this petition on behalf of our friends, neighbors, and children - the Haitian residents who form 20% of our local population. They are integral part of our community, actively contributing to the local economy and cultural fabric. With the looming threat of revoking their Temporary Protected Status (TPS), the lives of these residents hang in the balance.

The potential loss of such a large part of our community could deeply disrupt our collective livelihood and could be catastrophic for Springfield. Our Haitians neighbors have fulfilled jobs and created more jobs for the citizens of Springfield to support our community growth. They contribute to our community by paying taxes and making purchases in the city and surrounding area. They also contribute their culture to Springfield adding an opportunity to learn from their experiences and traditions.

Everyone knows the rumors about Haitians that started in Springfield were false.  These are sons, fathers, mothers, and daughters. They are individuals who have sought out a better life for themselves and their families on American soil. Stripping them of their TPS not only endangers their lives but also denies them the opportunity to live happily, safely, and productively.

Furthermore, sending these individuals back to a Haiti during such unrest and violence is simply inhumane; it stands contrary to the values of safety, refuge, and justice that we hold dear.

I urge our legislators and policymakers to provide a pathway to citizenship for those under TPS. By doing so, we can protect these innocent lives from violence and corruption and uphold the principles of humanity that this nation was built on. Please, sign this petition, stand with our Haitian community and demonstrate that we believe in providing a safe harbor for all who need it.
