On May 18th, an encampment was established following a call to end homelessness. Our unhoused community in Norfolk County, urgently needs access to Immediate Permanent (Unconditional) Housing, Washrooms, Running Water, Showers, Laundry Facilities, Health Care Services. These basic necessities are fundamental human rights that should be accessible to everyone.

Homelessness is not just a lack of shelter; it is a public health crisis that affects the entire community. Without proper housing and healthcare services, individuals face increased risks of illness and mortality. According to recent statistics from the Canadian Observatory on Homelessness (COH), over 235,000 Canadians experience homelessness each year.

We must act now to provide comprehensive support for our unhoused neighbors. Sign this petition to urge local authorities in Simcoe to allocate resources towards permanent unconditional unrestricted housing and essential services for those in need. Permanent unrestricted unconditional housing does not mean temporary conditional seasonal accommodations because it's not enough.  They need a HOME. They need stability. 

Misinformation continues to circulate in leu of the government and other parties involved taking responsibility. We must keep in mind that these individuals did not just become homeless on May 18th when the Encampment was established. Some people having been homeless from 6 months to 7 + years (not limited to the following reference of time). 

Our homeless community has been kicked out of locations such as forest trails, public parks, county properties such as fairgrounds, mall, stores etc. They have no place they are "Allowed" to stay. 

We understand that there are some great supports and services in Norfolk County that have been able to fill in the gaps to a broken system. We understand that not all services have been established to specifically deal with these needs. We respect the agencies and service providers that help all members of our community! 

We need to address long term-stable-permanent housing for our Folk.
