Many families in the autism community are living with a heartbreaking reality: children and adults with autism are at high risk around water. Too often, when an autistic child wanders, the outcome is tragic.

For many individuals on the autism spectrum, water is both calming and fascinating. But without proper swimming and water safety skills, this attraction can quickly turn into danger.

We are calling on local governments, schools, community centers, and aquatic facilities to provide FREE swimming and water safety lessons for all children and adults with autism.

Swimming is not just a sport  it is a life-saving skill.

Every year, families across our communities lose loved ones to drowning after wandering incidents. These are preventable tragedies. Access to specialized swimming lessons designed for individuals with autism can dramatically reduce the risk.

We ask that leaders, organizations, and community programs:

• Provide free adaptive swimming lessons for autistic children and adults

• Train instructors to support individuals with sensory and communication differences

• Offer safe and inclusive aquatic environments

• Partner with autism organizations to make water safety accessible to every family

No family should have to fear water taking their child’s life.

Water safety is not a luxury. It is a necessity.
