Provide Free Shuttle Bus from Wyndham Station to Hobbs Road Carpark
The issue
Parking in the streets surrounding Wyndham Vale Railway station is causing serious safety concerns to the residents and anyone using these streets for travel. As a local resident, the daily chaos and congestion due to inadequate parking and transit options affect not just convenience, but essential safety.
Particularly, Cumbrian Road, Mayesbrook Road, and to a lesser extent, Commuter Blvd., Are the worse affected.
Wyndham Council has already marked a small section of Cumbrian Road no parking on one side only, to allow vehicles travelling in either direction to be able to pass through safely. A Fire Engine would not be able to pass through this section are all due to the roads narrowness.
The current situation stresses the narrow streets where parked cars create hazardous conditions for pedestrians, cyclists, and other vehicular traffic. Congestion can lead to delays for emergency service vehicles, and the risk of accidents increases with each car that clogs the residential roads.
Addressing this issue, the City of Wyndham Council can work together with the state government and V Line to introduce a free shuttle bus service operating during peak times. This service would run from Wyndham Station to the Hobbs Road Carpark, relieving pressure on local streets and offering a practical, sustainable solution for commuters.
A shuttle service benefits everyone in our community: it provides a convenient alternative for commuters, improves safety in residential areas, and supports environmental goals by potentially reducing individual car trips.
Other regions have successfully implemented similar systems, citing marked improvements in traffic flow and community satisfaction. According to the Department of Transport's data from 2022, shuttle services in comparable areas increased public transport use and decreased local traffic.
