Provide Extra GCSE Revision Support for Year 11 Students After Strike Disruptions

The Issue

We, the undersigned students, parents, and members of the school community at St Cuthbert's Roman Catholic High School in Rochdale, are deeply concerned about the impact that recent and potential strike days are having on Year 11 students in the crucial months leading up to their GCSE examinations.

Year 11 is one of the most important academic years in a student’s education. GCSE results can influence college opportunities, apprenticeships, and future career paths. With exams approaching quickly, every lesson and revision opportunity is extremely valuable.

While we respect the right of teachers to take industrial action and understand the wider issues involved, the reality remains that lost teaching time places additional pressure on students who are already preparing for high-stakes exams.

Many Year 11 students are worried about missed content, reduced revision time, and gaps in preparation that may affect their performance in the upcoming GCSE exams.

We therefore respectfully ask the school leadership to consider implementing additional support measures for Year 11 students affected by strike disruptions, such as:

Extra revision sessions or catch-up classes
Access to recorded lessons or revision resources
Clear communication about how missed topics will be covered
Our intention is not to criticise teachers or the school, but to ensure that students receive the support they need during this critical stage of their education.

Year 11 students have worked hard throughout their secondary school years, and with exams fast approaching, they deserve every opportunity to succeed.

We ask the school to take reasonable steps to help ensure that disruption does not negatively impact the preparation and confidence of students sitting their GCSE exams this year.
