Provide ethical insurance for medical herbalists and other therapeutic practitioners
The Issue
As a professional medical herbalist, I am bound by the oath to 'do no harm.' Yet, as I seek insurance for my practice, I am faced with a significant dilemma. Currently, the available insurance policies are intricately linked with underwriters whose investments and associations raise serious ethical concerns. These underwriters are often involved in supporting industries that contribute to ecocide, crimes against humanity, and the development of controversial weaponry.
Medical herbalists like myself, and other holistic therapeutic practitioners, dedicate their lives to promoting health and healing through natural and sustainable means. The core mission of our work is inherently opposed to the negative impacts of industries that exacerbate environmental destruction or harm to human life. It is crucial that our choice of professional insurance aligns with these values of sustainability and ethical integrity.
The absence of such insurance options not only puts the credibility of our practices at risk but also forces us to indirectly support activities that go against our principle of 'do no harm.' It is an untenable position that no healthcare professional should have to face. As dedicated stewards of health and well-being, we demand access to insurance policies that reflect our commitment to doing good for the planet and its people.
We call upon insurance companies to collaborate with underwriters committed to developing ethical policies catered specifically for medical herbalists and other therapeutic practitioners. These policies must exclude involvement with entities responsible for ecological destruction, human rights abuses, or production of inhumane weaponry. There is a growing market of conscientious professionals seeking solutions that do not compromise their ethical standards. Insurers have the opportunity to lead the way in fostering a fairer and more conscientious marketplace.
Please join us in demanding the creation of ethical insurance options for medical herbalists and other healthcare practitioners committed to 'doing no harm.' Sign this petition to urge insurance providers to recognise the importance of ethical underwriting and to act swiftly to fill this critical gap in the market. Your support can make a significant difference in aligning healthcare practices with the values we strive to uphold.
