The Issue

Farrah Abraham's Story

My story may be familiar to some of you. As a teen parent, I had the opportunity to share my experience on MTV's 16 & Pregnant and PARAMOUNT + TEEN MOM franchise. I was forced to become a symbol of teenage parenthood due to a lack of advocacy for non-hormonal, surgical, or non-surgical contraception prevention equality. Even while on birth control pills, I fell pregnant due to a lack of suitable options.

By combining my lived experience of 17 years with organized advocacy efforts, I can effectively propose and push for the "Contraception Prevention Equality Act" in Congress. Procreation equals prevention, as soon as that day arrives for some at age ten and we need to provide contraception prevention equality to all for brighter futures.

The Problem

Our society has progressed, but there is still a significant gap in our approach to teenage sexual health. Girls can menstruate as early as 10 years old, signaling the onset of their ability to conceive. Ignoring this reality can lead to crisis events such as unwanted pregnancies resulting in the stressful decision of having to opt for abortions. Teenagers, both male and female, deserve equal access to all forms of contraception, starting from when they are capable of procreation.

The Solution

According to a study in the American Journal of Public Health, teenagers who have access to a broad range of contraceptive methods have significantly lower rates of unwanted pregnancies. The power and autonomy provided by such access can play a vital role in preventing emotional, physical, and social complications associated with teen pregnancies (American Journal of Public Health, 2015).

The Call to Action

As we approach 2025, with talks of women enacting a sex strike to enact social change in 2024, it becomes even more critical to endorse and push for inclusion in contraception. We owe it to the upcoming generation of girls and boys to have choices, to have control over their bodies and reproductive futures. As an advocate who's walked this journey, I urge you all to sign this petition. Stand up for teen rights, for access to all forms of contraception, for the opportunity to prevent unwanted pregnancies, and the emotional and physical pain that accompanies them. It's time to strive for change, for inclusion, and equality on this issue! Let's pave a path for a future where every teenager is educated on and has access to all contraception methods available just like other adults who can procreate. Sign this petition to make this a reality today! PROCREATION EQUALS PREVENTION, Your Inner teenager thanks you today!INSTAGRAM VIDEO OF SOCIAL ACTION
