Currently the Genesee County animal control is only operational Monday thru Friday 10:00-4:00..Closed Sat, Sun & Holidays
There is a need to have a 24 hour shelter for strays and animals who have been abandoned as well as there is a need for an emergency clinic for when an animal is hit by a car or is injured in some other way and needs immediate help. Too many times, we come across animals who have been hit by a car or are severely injured in some way and call 911 and they dont know what to do to help the animal. If it was a person, then they would send an ambulance.. What about our precious pets and other animals who have the right to live also? I came across a dog a few days ago that had been hit. I called 911.. they didnt have much information for me except a number of an emergency clinic.. So I called the clinic but was told I would have to pay $80 and she would be seen. She wasnt my dog BUT I was willing to pay the $80..Most people cant or wont do that.. I had a few people help load her in my car and we drove her to one clinic only a mile away but the dr was in surgery so we went to another clinic a few miles down the road, (a different one than the one i called) These people were very helpful and had a heart and rushed out to the car to get her and bring her in but unfortunately the beautiful pitbull passed away in my car while I was driving her to the clinic. She was alive and breathing hard when we put her in the car but quit breathing before we got her help. This beautiful pitbull was a mommy of puppies only about 2 or 3 weeks old and needed their mother to feed them. It is sad for them to lose their mother this way. The reason she was crossing the road is because she had another litter of puppies that were a few months or so old and she was guiding them back across the street to go home. Luckily her puppies made it fine but the mother did not. She was conscious when I stopped and I got to pet her a little and tryed to calm her down. There was also a few guys who stopped to help load her.. and there was another lady who led me to the clinic up the road and made phone calls. She was very helpful by making phone calls to try and get this beautiful dog some help.. and by driving in front of me and leading me to the vets office and in finding the owner of the dog.. We tryed hard to save this beautiful mother..We worked together as a team to try and save her.   Now if this was a human I was telling you about, most people may shed a few tears but since it's a dog, most people will just shrug their shoulders.. Very Sad!! Dogs are the only animal I know that can love UNCONDITIONALLY!! Yet humans still euthanize them, beat them, abandon them, starve them and the list goes on. I know there are people like me in Genesee county that truly care and go out of their way to help animals.. but there are only very few of us... so we need to stick together and defend these beautiful animals who are our best friends and family members. We desperately need a fully staffed 24 hour shelter and emergency clinic with a no kill policy. We need to eliminate euthinazation of all animals. In order to fund more room and help for animals, we could do fundraising or we could include it in property taxes. It wouldnt raise anyone's taxes by that much. If only everyone contributed just a little.. Think how much we could accomplish.. The shelter could also be staffed with volunteers.. I will be the first to volunteer. Also like they do at many doctors offices, veterinarians could take turns donating a day or two every so often to do surgeries and routine care on animals. The biggest reason this is important.. We need to save lives and prevent abuse and cruelty to helpless animals and we need to stop Euthanizing them when we can find other means to work harder at finding them homes or use all volunteers in order to afford a bigger facility.Please help me to save our best friends who love us unconditionally!!
