The Council released the draft dispersal plan for the Flying Fox colony.
* A $6.2 million price tag.
* 95% chance of failure.
* Every family in the Shire will need to pay at least $300.
* The Flying Foxes are expected to move from one populated area in Bateman's Bay to other surrounding residential areas (within a couple of kilometres). Knowing that this is the expected outcome, the Council is then responsible for all of the issues caused to the people in the new areas where the bats will settle.
This is the WRONG PLAN. It is a BAD IDEA. Just because dispersal is the only proposal on the table doesn't make it feasible, and it certainly doesn't make it a sound investment.
WE NEED A BETTER PLAN. Something specialised. Something suitable for the bats and the people in Bateman's Bay. Just because we don't have it yet doesn't mean we need to jump at the chance to throw our money at something that is pretty much guaranteed to be a complete failure.
But the people are pushing harder than ever, with a new motion proposed to have the bats declared a "state of emergency", thereby robbing them of all of their rights as a vulnerable species.
