Petition to Address the Unauthorized Disclosure of Minors' Personally Identifiable Information (PII)

To Whom It May Concern:

We, the undersigned residents, parents, and concerned citizens of Dearborn Heights  are writing to formally express our deep concern and outrage over the recent act of gross negligence or incompetence that released personally identifiable information (PII) of minors on a publicly accessible website. This violation of COPPA has not only violated the rights of our children and their families but has also eroded public trust in the institutions responsible for safeguarding such sensitive data.

Our Concerns:

The public release of minors' PII constitutes a serious breach of privacy and safety, potentially exposing our children to risks including identity theft, exploitation, and harassment.
The publication of this information without adequate safeguards shows a gross negligence or incompetence in data handling practices.
There has been insufficient public acknowledgment, accountability, or communication from the responsible parties regarding the scope of the incident and the steps taken to address it.
Our Requests:

We, the undersigned, request the following actions be taken and entered into public record:

Official Acknowledgment: That it be formally and publicly acknowledged that this act of gross negligence occurred, including the specific nature of the PII disclosed and the length of time it remained accessible to the public.
Transparency: That a comprehensive report be released to all parties impacted disclosing:
The dates and duration of the data exposure.
The number of individuals impacted.
A list of all individuals, agencies, or entities who accessed or downloaded the file during the time it was publicly available.
A detailed list of what information was made accessible.
A detailed explanation of the failure to act and notify the parties involved.
Accountability and Penalties: That individuals and/or departments responsible for allowing this act of negligence be held accountable. This includes a transparent investigation (preferably a third party) into how this act of negligence occurred, and if it was malice, a criminal prosecution shall occur.
Appropriate punitive actions against all personnel involved in this act of negligence.

A plan of action to safeguard the parties involved.

Policies: Implementation of policy to ensure the safety and privacy of residents PII.
Preventive Measures: That new and improved data security protocols be implemented immediately to ensure that this type of gross negligence can not occur again, and that these protocols be made publicly available.
Our children deserve better. As guardians and citizens, we cannot stand by while their privacy and safety are compromised. We urge the responsible bodies to act swiftly, transparently, and justly.
