Update: This campaign is now officially endorsed by r/YouthRevolt. I am working to get more endorsement and reach.
I am deeply concerned about Anthony Albanese’s recent announcement to raise the minimum social media age limit to 16. This policy not only undermines the autonomy of our youth but also fails to address the real issues that come with navigating the digital world responsibly.
Social media platforms are integral to how young people learn, communicate, and engage with the world around them. By restricting access, we risk isolating teenagers and depriving them of opportunities to develop essential digital skills. Instead of banning social media use, we should focus on education, digital literacy, and parental guidance to ensure that young people are prepared for the digital age.
The decision to enforce stricter age limits is driven by a vocal minority, disregarding the views of the broader community, which recognizes the benefits of supervised, responsible social media use starting at age 13. This restrictive approach will have long-term consequences, including exacerbating feelings of social isolation among youth and limiting their ability to advocate for causes they care about.
We cannot afford to be complacent. Sign this petition to demand that the government reconsider this age restriction and keep the social media age limit at 13. Let’s work together to promote a balanced approach that prioritizes education and safety without infringing on youth rights.
Every voice matters in this fight. Thank you for standing up for our young people and their future.
