Protect yourself against against ACRYLATE POISONING, sign for reduced chemical use
The Issue
This chemical is found in many everyday products such as detergents, eyelash glue, nail extensions, and even surgical and dental materials. It's a growing threat that many are unaware of until they experience an allergic reaction. I am one of the growing number of individuals who suffer from the “gel nail,” “eyelash glue,” “detergent and more” - ACRYLATE allergic reactions.
I’ve been dealing with a lot of things regarding my health, and not in the past few days have I been able to hug my loved ones. Unable to even receive comfort in a physical manner because of the amount Acrylate found in detergents. Turn over the detergent you use today and check for the word “acrylate” or “acrylic” or “acryil..” something of the kind and imagine the alarm and pain that comes along with it upon contact. This allergy has been one of the most isolating experiences of my life and I unfortunately imagine many other people will experience this type of isolating experience in the near future.
Similar to how Latex was replaced with safer alternatives across the board in beauty and health products due to widespread allergies, it's time for manufacturers to consider HEMA-free options.
The prevalence of this allergen not poses a threat to our daily lives but also poses a significant risk during medical emergencies. In my case, I run the risk of being refused medical care due to the pervasive presence of this chemical in healthcare facilities.
According to recent studies, there has been an increase in cases related to HEMA allergies (American Journal of Contact Dermatitis). As increased use of the chemical persists in many settings - the more exposure individuals have the stronger their reactions will become. Some users on TikTok report symptoms of severe joint pain when in contact, blindness, rashes and have been hospitalized for these reactions. Despite this alarming trend, there is still no mandate for companies to provide alternatives or label their products appropriately.
We urge manufacturers and regulatory bodies alike to recognize the impact that these allergens have on people. We need more research into safe substitutes for HEMA and better labeling practices so consumers can make informed choices about what they use on their bodies or in their homes. This allergy may develop in ANY individual at any given time depending on what day to day products they come into contact with, and will remain a life long concern from that point on.
Please sign this petition if you believe everyone deserves access to safe health and lifestyle products regardless of their allergies. Together we can push for change that will benefit us all.
