The Issue

Imagine a world where your beloved pets are banned. Where thousands of animals disappear from our homes because of restrictive laws called 'positive lists' or 'whitelists'.

What are positive lists?
Positive lists dictate which animals you’re allowed to keep as pets. If the pet you keep isn’t on the list, it’s banned. This means thousands of species could vanish from our homes and our lives.

The hidden dangers of positive lists:

  • Pets driven underground: In countries with positive lists, pet ownership doesn’t stop – it simply disappears underground. People still keep pets, but without the proper help or guidance, animal welfare is at risk.
  • No access to vet care: If your pet is banned, getting vet care becomes dangerous. People fear being punished, so pets suffer.
  • Illegal wildlife trade: Banning pets doesn’t stop demand – it fuels illegal wildlife trade.

Why should you care?
Positive lists are unnecessary and impossible to enforce. They do more harm than good. Yet, more and more governments are considering them, following pressure from extreme animal rights activists.

Don’t let governments decide which pets you can love
You have the right to choose the best pet for your lifestyle and care for them responsibly. We must protect that right and ensure the welfare of all pets.
