The northern school entrance crosswalk on Landwehr Road is currently a direct hazard to the children and families of Winkelman Elementary School. Every day during morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up, students and parents face an unsafe street environment due to a severe lack of traffic control and dangerous driver behavior.

Parents report near-misses with cars weekly. Drivers regularly travel well over the limit, drive while distracted and refuse to stop—even when families are actively in the crosswalk. To make matters worse, there is no pedestrian crossing sign on the southbound approach to warn oncoming traffic.

Our children deserve a safe path to school. We are demanding that the Village of Glenview and School District 31 take immediate action to:

1) Assign a dedicated crossing guard to the northern Landwehr Road entrance during school rush hours.

2) Install southbound pedestrian crossing signage to clearly identify the crosswalk.

3) Deploy Glenview Police Traffic Enforcement to monitor speeds during school zone hours.
