The Issue

Protect Wendover – Oppose this housing development

Rectory Homes has put in an outline planning application which would lead to 85 homes being built on the land west of Halton Lane off of the Aylesbury Road.

You can find details of the application and make your own comments on the application at the following link: https://publicaccess.buckinghamshire.gov.uk/online-applications/applicationDetails.do?keyVal=TCRRIWESN3M00&activeTab=summary

This proposal would result in a significant and harmful change to the rural edge of Wendover, eroding the character of the Chilterns landscape and replacing open countryside with dense housing. The site currently forms an important part of the town’s natural setting and contributes to the distinct identity of the area. Most notably the proposed development site is situated adjacent to Weston Turville Reservoir, a Site of Specific Scientific Interest.

We are concerned that the proposal is based on misleading visual representations which understate the true scale, density, and visual impact of the development. The reality of the scheme would be far more intrusive than suggested, with lasting consequences for the surrounding environment and community.

Furthermore, the site has previously been identified as unsuitable for development. Details of this can be found at: https://publicaccess.aylesburyvaledc.gov.uk/online-applications/files/8ED5A34EF0040AD292299358A310CEA5/pdf/16_00068_NONDET-APPEAL_DECISION-1778140.pdf

Granting permission now would undermine established planning principles and raise serious concerns about consistency and transparency in the planning process.

This development offers no meaningful justification for the loss of valuable green field land and would set a damaging precedent for further encroachment into the countryside.

We urge the Bucks County Council to:

  • Recognise the unsuitability of this site for development
  • Protect Wendover’s rural character and landscape setting
  • Reject this planning application in full

Wendover’s rural edge must be preserved for current and future generations.

We the undersigned strongly object to the proposed access road and subsequent development of up to 85 houses on the green field land west of Halton Lane, Wendover for the reasons set out above.
