I work in a warehouse environment where speed is prioritized over employees' physical and mental health, longevity, and well-being. It feels dehumanizing to be treated like a machine rather than a person. Our breaks are rigidly timed, with just 10 minutes a day to use the bathroom — and that includes travel time in a very large warehouse. Meanwhile, office employees and management have easy, constant access to facilities. Moreover, there is an alarming lack of quota transparency. Employees are often left in the dark, unaware of the actual metrics against which they are judged. This fosters a deceptive environment where workers are punished for not meeting unclear and unsafe expectations. We call on Rep. Jason Dawkins of the 179th District and Senator Devlin Robinson of the 37th District to help enact changes that will protect warehouse workers from these dangerous and unreasonable practices. Workers shouldn't be held to nonviable standards that disregard age, health, and basic human rights. Older workers, who are 50 or 60, shouldn’t be expected to perform at the same speed as someone half their age. Yet, in many warehouses, they are, leading to increased risk of injury and stress. We need them to develop and enforce policies that ensure big companies and corporations realize that people are not machines. By holding such employers accountable, we can create safer and more humane working conditions for warehouse employees. We are urging our leaders to introduce regulations that limit unreasonable quotas, ensure quota transparency, and respect workers' rights to adequate breaks. Big corporations must understand that these issues contribute dramatically to employee burnout, physical injuries, and mental health challenges. No one should have to leave current job due to unnecessary tactics deployed against them.When people are pushed to work faster than they feel comfortable mistakes happen. Don't work fast enough and action is taken. Work faster than you're comfortable and make a mistake and action is taken. Lose lose for the employees.  Let us work together to make sure that warehouse environments are supportive, fair, and humane.
