Protect Valley Circle — No Dignity Cemetery

Protect Valley Circle — No Dignity Cemetery
The Issue
We, the families and residents of Woodland Hills, Hidden Hills, and the surrounding neighborhoods, stand together in strong opposition to the proposed development of a Dignity Memorial cemetery on the former Treeland Nursery property at 23475 Long Valley Rd, Woodland Hills, CA 91367.
This project is not just another land-use change — it would place a large cemetery in the middle of a family-oriented neighborhood. Our homes, our children, and our way of life will be directly and permanently impacted. The daily reality of funeral traffic, burials, and the loss of peace, safety, and community character is unacceptable. This project threatens the health, safety, and character of our community in contradiction to LAMC Sections 12.24, 12.07.01, 14.90 and 22.154.030.
We stand united in rejecting this plan for the following reasons:
Traffic & Safety – Our neighborhood is already heavily congested due to El Camino Real Charter High School, one of the largest schools in Los Angeles County. Funeral traffic would worsen gridlock, create safety hazards for children, and overwhelm our streets.
Community Character – A cemetery is incompatible with a family-oriented residential community. No one wants to raise children or live next to funeral services and burial grounds. LMAC Section 12.07.01 highlights the importance of preserving and enhancing the residential character of a neighborhood, even in zones where some non-residential uses may be permitted.
Psychological Harm – Constant reminders of death can negatively impact the mental well-being of children and families living nearby.
Property Values – Proximity to a cemetery lowers home values an average of 12 ½% but can run as high as 25%, harming residents financially and making the neighborhood less desirable.
Environmental Concerns – This project risks damaging wildlife habitats and contaminating the local water supply. Cemeteries require extensive land alteration and pose long-term environmental hazards.
Peace & Quality of Life – Increased funeral activity will bring noise, traffic, and emotional strain into a neighborhood that deserves peace and stability.
We urge city officials and decision-makers to reject this cemetery development. Our community deserves safe, healthy, and family-friendly land use — not a project that endangers our well-being and undermines our quality of life.
We, the undersigned, stand together in opposition to the development of Dignity Memorial Cemetery development in Valley Circle.
