Protect US Professional Services Jobs

The Issue

As an experienced engineering professional, I am witnessing a worrying trend. High-quality, high-paying jobs in the engineering and other professional service sectors are increasingly being outsourced to low-cost international centers. This practice is not only reducing job opportunities for young American professionals but also raising concerns about the quality of services offered.

In countries with considerably lower living standards, professional services can be offered at minimal costs. However, the trade-off is often a poorer quality of service, which can lead to significant issues. Furthermore, the outsourcing trend deprives younger professionals in the US of the opportunity to gain vital experience in their fields. This is creating a worrying experience gap that threatens to weaken the American professional services industry in the long run.

According to the International Trade Administration, the professional services industry employs over 11 million people in the United States. These jobs contribute significantly to the nation's economy (contributing a combined $2.8 trillion in 2022) and are an essential part of our society and national security. If the current outsourcing trend persists, millions of jobs and the quality of services could be at risk.

I am deeply concerned about this situation, which is why I am calling on the US government to impose tariffs on professional services performed internationally for the US market. This move would create a level playing field for US-based professionals and help maintain high service standards.

Now, more than ever, we need your support to change this. Please, sign this petition to protect our professionals, bolster the US economy and safeguard the quality of our professional services.  This petition will be sent to members of congress and the office of the president to be used to initiate political action.

Thank you for your support.
