Protect US Jobs from AI Scammers

Protect US Jobs from AI Scammers
The Issue
AI-generated fake job applicants are no longer science fiction, they’re a real and growing danger in today’s job market. Using artificial intelligence, scammers can impersonate job seekers with alarming realism. They forge polished résumés, build fake websites, generate professional headshots, and even simulate convincing video interviews.
When companies unknowingly hire these fake applicants, the consequences can be devastating. Some infiltrate systems, steal data, and install malware. Others use stolen identities to secure jobs remotely, then funnel their paychecks to hostile foreign governments. In one case uncovered by U.S. authorities, a network of North Korean operatives posed as American IT workers and redirected hundreds of millions of dollars to their country’s missile program.
This isn't just about national security. Everyday job seekers are being pushed out of opportunities by AI-generated impostors. Research from Gartner predicts that one in four job applicants could be fake by 2028. These fraudsters often steal real people's identities which is damaging their reputations, credit, and careers. Meanwhile, trust in remote work is eroding, threatening flexible jobs that many rely on.
It’s time to act. We urge Federal Trade Commission Chair Lina Khan to crack down on AI hiring scams and hold tech platforms accountable for detecting fake profiles. We call on U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland to investigate and prosecute employment fraud rings, both foreign and domestic. And we demand LinkedIn CEO Ryan Roslansky implement stricter identity verification and AI detection tools to keep scammers off the platform.
Fake workers are endangering our security and livelihoods. Sign now to demand urgent protections and keep real jobs for real people.
