Protect Tucson: Stop Street Racing

Protect Tucson: Stop Street Racing
The Issue
Oscar was not just a family member, he was like a brother to all. He was a kind man, a funny man and one who got taken from us to soon. Oscar Salazar was killed in Tucson, AZ on December 7th, 2025, by a man speeding at an excessive speed while allegedly street racing.
Oscar was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the vehicle was later arrested and released on bail currently awaiting being convicted of charges.
This is the sad reality that Tucsonans are living daily. Reckless drivers are taking innocent lives with little to no accountability for human life. Since April 2026, thirty three lives have been taken due to traffic related accidents, most due to reckless speed. As a family we are still trying to process not having Oscar with us, not seeing him anymore, hugging him, spending family time together or hearing his laugh. We don't want other families feeling this pain. We are tired of the tragedies due to carelessness! Tucsonans are tired and we need change! First offenses for street racing and excessive speed should be inclined to serious penalties resulting in 30 day suspensions, community service and fines. We need to revoke the privileges of driving due to serious injuries and or death, despite the presence of a substance. Imposing higher bail that restricts the ability for criminals to get out the same day of being arrested. Higher penantly than second degree for any conviction due to speeding and stree racing resulting in death. Tucson needs more street lights to deter the long distances of asphalt giving opportunities to speed. As well as police presence in high target areas. We the people need to take back our streets of Tucson, to protect our famililies and the future. In the memory of all who's lives have been cut in such a tragic way, let's unite for change!
As a community let's come together to show our care for Tucson and the people that commute in our streets daily.
Let us not let the lives lost go silent but be the voice for the now unheard!
JUSTICE FOR OSCAR!! JUSTICE FOR ALL!!!
