Protect Trimble Hills and the Meadowbrook Natural Area from Harmful Development
The Issue
Nestled in the tranquil beauty of Trimble Hills and the Meadowbrook Natural Area, our home is not just a place but a sanctuary surrounded by lush wetlands, thriving grasslands, and a crucial wildlife corridor. We have cherished moments here, witnessing the balances of nature and the tranquility these bring to our lives. This serenity, however, is now under threat from a proposed development, the human activity and impact of which will damage the ecosystem and compromise the safety and integrity of our neighborhood.
A planned development of 64 apartment units will significantly disrupt the natural habitats that numerous species call home. Wetlands serve an essential role in maintaining environmental health by filtering pollutants, controlling floods, and supporting an essential array of wildlife. Disturbing these crucial areas would have irreversible effects on biodiversity and the ecological services on which we all rely.
Moreover, the grasslands and wildlife corridor are irreplaceable pathways for animals, ensuring their survival and contributing to the biodiversity of our region. Among the species of the Meadowbrook Natural Area are those protected by the Migratory Bird Treaty Act. Encroaching upon this natural landscape not only endangers wildlife populations but alters our shared environment in ways we cannot fully foresee or reverse.
The proposed development also raises substantial concerns regarding increased traffic, pollution, and potential property devaluation. The development, as proposed, will degrade the community’s wellbeing and safety—particularly for our children and seniors. Our neighborhood prides itself on its peacefulness and commitment to maintaining a harmonious relationship with one another and with nature—qualities that are at risk of becoming a memory.
Instead of infrastructure unsuitable for an area of just 4.58 acres, we propose the development of community-approved alternatives that respect current residents and our natural surroundings. Using the space intelligently and responsibly, including investing in green technologies and enhancing the relationship between people and the natural area, are viable paths to ensure ecological balance and community prosperity.
Trimble Hills is more than our home: it’s a testament to the beauty and importance of coexisting with nature. Let's stand together to safeguard a healthy ecology and uphold the values that make our neighborhood a cherished place to live.
We urge local government officials, developers, and concerned citizens to reconsider the proposed apartment development in the interest of respecting and preserving Trimble Hills and the Meadowbrook Natural Area. Your signature is a powerful tool to help us protect the environment and secure a sustainable future for all residents. Please sign this petition today to keep Trimble Hills safe and thriving for generations to come.
