PROTECT TILBURY FROM "100" YEAR FLOODS

PROTECT TILBURY FROM "100" YEAR FLOODS
The Issue
The town of Tilbury Needs your support!
Please sign and share this petition which is to be presented to Chatham-Kent Council by Councillor Melissa Harrigan on February 26th 2024.
Over the last five years, the town of Tilbury has seen an increased number of "100 year storms", causing significant flooding and property damage across the community. This has been devastating to residents and their families, and in some cases, has resulted in multiple instances of flooding only weeks apart for some residents.
Chatham-Kent has an active Storm Water Master Plan in place (information can be found here: https://www.letstalkchatham-kent.ca/tilbury-stormwater-master-plan However, the timeline for its implementation does not meet the needs of the residents of Tilbury.
Therefore, we the undersigned, declare the following:
- We support Councillor Harrigan's motion to ensure that the pumping stations are able to operate through hydro outages, when they are needed most, and for this solution to be implemented in 2024.
- We support the work being done on the Tilbury Storm Water Master plan, and encourage the Municipality of Chatham-Kent to accelerate this work using all means possible.
- We support the need to advocate to the province and Hydro One, to ensure that any storm water assets and property is maintained in order to support proper drainage within the town of Tilbury.
The time to act is now. Tilbury needs the support of the Municipality of Chatham-Kent and Province of Ontario to implement its Storm Water Master Plan and solve its flooding challenges!
