Every Search Deserves a Record.

Imagine being the person whose home, business, vehicle, belongings, digital device, or body is searched. Now imagine being the officer responsible for carrying out that warrant correctly and safely.

A complete and accurate record protects everyone.

Body-worn cameras can document how a search warrant was executed, where evidence was found, what was said, how people were treated, and how property or devices were handled. The footage can protect residents from misconduct, protect officers from false accusations, preserve evidence, and give courts a clearer account of what actually happened.

We are asking the Florida Legislature to require every officer participating in the execution of a search warrant to wear and activate a body-worn camera before the operation begins and continue recording until the operation is complete.

The law should also require:

• A written explanation whenever recording is stopped, muted, blocked, interrupted, or unavailable.
• Secure preservation of the original, unedited footage.
• A documented record of who accessed, copied, redacted, or released the recording.
• Strong privacy protections for children, victims, medical patients, and anyone who is undressed, partially dressed, or otherwise vulnerable.
• Redaction of faces, voices, names, addresses, medical details, school information, and other identifying information before public release when legally appropriate.
• Restricted access to sensitive footage while preserving the original recording for courts, attorneys, and authorized investigators.
• Meaningful consequences for intentionally failing to record without a lawful reason.

This policy can also save money for taxpayers, law-enforcement agencies, officers, and families. Reliable footage can resolve disputes sooner, reduce unnecessary investigations and hearings, improve evidence documentation, protect officers from unsupported complaints, and lower the risk of costly litigation.

This campaign is not about assuming that officers are wrong or that every complaint is valid. It is about ensuring that no resident, officer, victim, witness, attorney, judge, or juror must rely only on conflicting memories when an objective record could exist.
