Protect the rights of sons of the American Legion

Protect the rights of sons of the American Legion
The Issue
My name is George, and I am the grandchild of a proud veteran who was integral in establishing and nurturing two posts of the American Legion including serving as commander . For many years, even since he passed away, I have carried his legacy forward by joining the American Legion as a Son, dedicating myself to support and advocate for the rights and well-being of our veterans.
However, in recent developments, we as the Sons of the American Legion are facing a significant injustice. We've been informed, somewhat underhandedly via emails from state representatives, that our rights have been stripped away without any due notice or transparency. We have received disturbing news that, apparently, a vote in October has overhauled our standing, silenced our appeals, disregarded our Constitution, and bypassed our bylaws—yet we were notified of none of this, nor were any alterations documented or published.
It is disheartening to be told, with no room for opposition, that we no longer have a voice or the ability to appeal. This lack of transparency and accountability is concerning, not only for myself but for all Sons of the American Legion. It undermines the foundational values of democracy and justice that we, as a community, uphold.
We must restore our rights and ensure that transparency is maintained in all proceedings. To address these grievances, I propose that the Sons of the American Legion be recognized as an independent entity, much like the Auxiliary. This separation would allow us to govern with our own set of bylaws and constitution, safeguarding our rights to appeal and participate in democratic processes.
By signing this petition, you can help us call upon the higher authorities within the American Legion to rectify this wrong. Your support is crucial in helping us secure justice and preserve the legacy of our loved ones.
Please sign this petition to protect the rights of the Sons of the American Legion and ensure a transparent and fair process for all members. Together, we can make a change.
