Full news update coming soon - for now we're asking you to please support Edna's Law by email or tweet or text to BBC Radio 4 about an item due on today's You & Yours re whistleblower protection.
Today's question: Would you feel safe to go to work and ask to see a copy of your employer's whistleblowing policy? Or would you feel it might put your job at risk and get you marked out as a troublemaker? Would you even try doing so just to see your manager's response?
The vast majority of whistleblowers known by Compassion In Care have worked for an employer where there was a whistleblowing policy but they still lost their jobs eg everyone in the NHS, corporate care homes, banks etc.
These policies are bought from commercial providers and many owners/managers never read or understand them. Their main purpose is to protect not the worker, but the employer in the event of a whistleblowing incident, but they are meaningless to most workers. Having a bought-off-the-shelf policy never has, and never will, protect whistleblowers! Only Edna's Law will.
So please raise this issue by contacting the BBC - even if you do so after the programme it still helps build awareness! Thank you very much
