Great news today, highlighting again why we urgently need Edna's Law! Panorama's Behind Closed Doors

has just been named joint winner of Best Factual TV Programme about Older People's Issues.
Karis Le Winton and other whistleblowers had reported the shocking conditions at The Old Deanery to their managers, the local authority and the Care Quality Commission with comprehensive detailed statements - but nothing changed and the defenceless Residents continued to suffer.
It was only stopped because Karis contacted Eileen Chubb at Compassion In Care, which led to a Panorama investigation. Many thanks to producer Joe Plomin, (who also produced Winterbourne View - another terrible abuse situation where whistleblowers had been ignored), Alyson Holt the BBC Health Correspondent, and Alex Lee the undercover reporter. The joint efforts of these people did what the managers, the local authority and the CQC had failed to do - the Residents were protected at last.
Compassion In Care works with people who take action to stop abuse - so please take note, Andrea Sutcliffe of the CQC - you won the debate at last week's Dementia Congress (voted on by the care industry itself) but we're winning the war to protect the vulnerable and we will continue to fight for Edna's Law, which will hold to account all those who allow abuse to continue by ignoring brave whistleblowers like Karis.
Many thanks to all our supporters. Please keep encouraging others to sign the petition because Panorama cannot be in every care home, so many vulnerable people are still suffering today because whistleblowers are still being ignored and having their lives made a misery for doing the right thing.
