Protect the Narwhal, Greenland Shark, and Polar Bear from Illegal Hunting

Protect the Narwhal, Greenland Shark, and Polar Bear from Illegal Hunting
The Issue
Born and raised in the Kingdom of Denmark, I, Lars Ole Mortensen have always been an ardent admirer of Greenland's marine biodiversity, especially the Narwhal, Greenland Shark, and the Polar Bear. Today, I am alarmed seeing these majestic creatures inch closer towards extinction because of rampant, illegal hunting practices.
The Narwhals, also known as the 'unicorns of the sea,' are unique for their long, straight tusks, and are a critical part of Inuit culture. However, according to the International Union for Conservation of Nature their population is dwindling, with only about 80,000 mature individuals left, largely due to hunting.
The Greenland Sharks, Earth's longest living vertebrates, are also victims of poaching, mainly for their meat and liver oil. Due to their late maturity, these sharks reproduce slowly, making them highly susceptible to over-exploitation.
Polar Bears, symbols of the Arctic's raw beauty and strength, are in a vulnerable state according to the IUCN. Besides habitat loss due to climate change, illegal hunting further intensifies their decline.
Denmark, as a frontrunner in implementing strong environmental policies, should continue to set an example by tightening its measures against illegal hunting in the waters of Greenland. Protection should be offered not only legally, but also through effective monitoring and law enforcement.
This fight is not just to protect our biodiversity; It's a fight for our culture, our heritage, and our children's right to coexist with these magnificent creatures.
Help Lars Ole Mortensen protect the Narwhal, the Greenland Shark, and the Polar Bear. Take a stand. Sign this petition.
