Protect the Mobile Libraries in Norfolk!
The Issue
The mobile libraries in Norfolk are in imminent danger of closure due to lack of advertising. This service is essential for those who have a passion for reading and are unable to access public libraries. However, a lack of funding from the Norfolk County Council for advertising has put their future in jeopardy. Despite their significance, these services suffer from insufficient public awareness about their existence and critical utility. Through a recent small survey on finding out the demand and awareness of this service, I found out that around 6% of 288 people who were not before aware of the mobile libraries will now use it and it is clear that number will continue to rise with proper advertising. Additionally, around 27% of people who were unaware of the service believe they are essential for others who are, for example, in hospital or in care homes, near schools and anywhere for all who have a passion for reading and would without the Mobile Libraries have no way of pursuing that. They offer not just books, but a bridge to literacy, education, and bonding for all ages. This is a robust appeal to the Norfolk County Council to ensure that they do not stop the Mobile Library service and that they invest in advertising for them so that they can have continued use by current users and for those who will use the service in the future so there is no reason to discontinue the valued service. We would also like them to increase the stops to more areas to reach those in need. Increased public awareness and continued support are the lifelines this service needs to survive and thrive. Join us in convincing the council that the mobile libraries are indispensable and deserve to be sustained. Spreading the word about their function can kindle a collective effort to keep their wheels turning. Let's work together to secure the future of our mobile libraries.
