Protect the Hoiho Penguin!

Protect the Hoiho Penguin!
The issue
Hoiho- Yellow-eyed penguin
Biodiversity
Biodiversity is the different variety of life in plants, animals and nature. It is the ecosystems on land and sea. If we don’t have biodiversity we will not exist. Scrubs, Swamps, and Wetlands improve water quality and prevent flooding.
Marine biodiversity
Marine biodiversity means the difference between the animals and the sea life. Biodiversity is essential to NZ because we have species that other countries don’t have. The hoiho, which is native to NZ, lives in the sea, which is a very important ecosystem for animals and humans.
Hoiho penguins
Hoiho penguins are under threat. They are under threat of extinction because of predators and climate change. Because Hoilo penguins live in a cold habitat, they must stay in their chilly habitat. If they live somewhere hotter, they will die.
Make a difference
The Hoiho population is declining a lot because of pests and climate change.
Here are some tips to save our precious Hoiho:
- Stop bottom trawling because penguins eat fish and krill. If they keep trawling the penguin's food, the penguins will die of hunger.
- STOP destroying the penguin's habitat because the penguins live in native coastal forests and scrubs.
- Set pest control to capture and decrease the number of predators such as Stoats, Weasels, Possems ETC because they kill the Hoiho.
- Don’t bring other unknown animals because they could be pests.
I hope that you will follow these tips and work together to save our special Hoiho.
