Petition updateProtect the historical and breathtaking Snows Hill Valley from a cell phone tower

620 people so far! THANK YOU! Here's some talking points!

620 signatures! Thank you everyone so far! I was only expecting only 100 signatures at best, so I am beyond amazed at the response this is getting.

I was asked for some talking points for when you call or write the cell company (contact info at the bottom of this message). (I apologize for any typos in advance.)

• Did they do any research about the scenic or historical value of this location? Ask if they have any connection or awareness of the area, its history, and scenic beauty and the impact it will the county's citizens and tourism (which is a major part of our local economy.) Make sure they take your name and record the call if you can. When I talked to the representative the other day, his mistakenly believed we were in West Tennessee and was vague on other details, so it appears they have little or no familiarity with this location.

• The tower will be located within view of our county's most historically important place. Over 4000 soldiers participated in the battle of Snows Hill and was featured on the cover of the NY Times in April 1863. (More info at the battle can be found through some quick Google searches or I can post links if anyone's interested further. It's pretty fascinating to read about what happened right here.)

• The Snows Hill Valley scenic view is admired daily by both locals and visitors. Photos have been share around the world and it has inspired art of all types. (Myself included – I'm a professional artist and the valley was featured in a surrealistic painting of mine that hung in Nashville's International Airport for 2 months in 2016.)

• This is not a cell phone dead zone and there are better locations that will not impact the landscape or historical areas. Why not put new towers next to or attached to existing towers?

• Citizens of Dowelltown and the surrounding countryside are concerned because of the way it will change the landscape. This tower will have blinking lights, which fills the sky with a pulsating glow in fog or low clouds. Many people live in the country for a reason and light pollution takes away our ability to enjoy our night sky and the natural beauty of our surroundings.

Joshua Austin is the representative at NTCH-West TN, Inc. You can contact them at 803-466-6488 or via mail at: Joshua Austin c/o NTCH-West TN, Inc., PO Box 8839, Columbia, SC 29202. I urge anyone who is passionate about protecting the Snows Hill Valley from this unwanted tower to give him a call or write AS SOON AS POSSIBLE and state your reasons for opposing the tower. Be polite, ask questions and share any answers you might get, and record the phone call if possible.

Let me know if this helps! Please have a safe and happy Thanksgiving!

– Lucas
