A quote from the World heritage Organisation -Planning.

”A degree of harm to the Landscape Character occurs that is not outweighed by any significant public benefit.”

The Changing times we live in do not always encourage respect or the desire to protect our natural environment from unsuitable developments . Throughout the Country this is happening , creatures and their environs decimated for financial gain or progress.

Many groups are banding together to organise petitions ,such as this , to save the small pockets of unique habitat which this small valley holds and represents.

One longstanding resident of the Valley has written the below-

“I have looked across the Valley many times and seen on occasion Foxes, Badgers, Otters, Stoats, Weasels, Squirrels, Birds of prey, Bats, King Fishers, protected Voles, Eels, and a myriad of insects, birds , fish and mammals. The Cot Valley has an abundant diversity of wildlife, with pop up pond, the stream with its still and racing waters and boggy places. The fact is, is that it has no need of this Pond which has actually damaged part of a valuable Eco-System”            ( The rest of this objection may be seen on the Public Planning Portal)

The Pond spent months dry and empty, even in the wettest July on record and a very wet August. It has now been refilled. It is as the Lead Flood Authority have stated “Off line” and therefore not reliant on the stream for its supply of water……. Yet it is . If this planning application is passed and water extraction goes ahead  ,  quantity of water required to keep it filled will cause  decimation in the Valley.  The untold effects felt through the entire eco system  ( especially in the dry summer months and the ever changing climate) as it heads into the National Trust section of the Valley and out to sea.  This summer the Eel in the picture was found struggling on the bank, , the stream being silted in its small pool. Happily  it was released lower down and was last seen heading towards the sea!
