The Issue

Protect the Constitutional Right to Trial by Jury.

The Crown and the Constitution must safeguard the people’s birthright liberties.

We, the undersigned, call for the protection and preservation of the ancient and constitutional right to trial by jury, a safeguard that protects the innocent, restrains the power of the State, and ensures that justice is delivered by one’s peers.

Trial by jury is not a privilege granted by government — it is a birthright held in trust under the Crown for the people of this Nation. It is guaranteed by Magna Carta (1215), the Petition of Right (1628), and the Bill of Rights (1689), and it has never been lawfully repealed.

The Ministry of Justice, under the leadership of the Secretary of State for Justice David Lammy, has brought forward proposals that would abolish or restrict jury trials for large categories of criminal cases. Such a change would represent a serious constitutional breach and would undermine the foundational principles of justice in this country.

No minister or government has lawful authority to remove constitutional rights that pre-exist their office. Trial by jury cannot be replaced by judge-only proceedings without violating the constitutional settlement of this land.

What we are asking.

We petition that:

The right to trial by jury be upheld and protected in all cases where a person’s liberty, property or reputation is at risk.

No legislation or proposal that diminishes this right should receive Royal Assent or be permitted to take effect.

Why this matters.

Removing jury trials would:

* Weaken public confidence in the justice system

* Concentrate power in the State

* Remove a defence against wrongful conviction

* Erode constitutional protections that have safeguarded generations

Our position.

We stand peacefully and lawfully in defence of the Constitution.

We seek no conflict — only the continued protection of the rights of the people.
