Protect the Ballot: Stop Unfair Barriers to Voting

The Issue

President Trump’s latest executive order is an attack on the fundamental right to vote, threatening to disenfranchise millions by requiring documentary proof of citizenship.

This mandate will make it harder for seniors, low-income citizens, married women with name changes, and naturalized citizens to vote—many of whom may struggle to access the required documents despite their legal right to cast a ballot.

As many as 21.3 million voting-age U.S. citizens lack documentary proof of citizenship. These are not ineligible voters—these are Americans who have participated in democracy for years and are now being pushed out by unnecessary regulations.

The order also mandates that all ballots be received by Election Day, disregarding longstanding state policies allowing postmarked mail-in ballots to be counted. This will hurt military members serving overseas, elderly and disabled voters, and those in rural areas with unreliable mail service.

Election fraud is already illegal, incredibly rare, and prosecuted when it occurs.

This executive order doesn’t improve election security; it suppresses voter turnout and skews elections in favor of those already in power.

We demand that this executive order be rescinded immediately. Congress must act now to protect voting rights and ensure every American has an equal say in our future.
