Protect the American hemp industry — overturn the federal THC ban provision
The Issue
As a hemp business owner, I am acutely aware of the challenges and dangers posed by the current federal THC ban provision. This misguided regulation limits hemp-derived products to an untenable 0.4 milligrams of total THC per container and bans many naturally derived cannabinoids. This is not only an attack on the burgeoning hemp industry but also on public safety and consumer rights. People are forced to turn to illegal and potentially dangerous sources for THC products. On the streets, these products might be tainted with deadly substances like fentanyl, which has tragically taken the lives of several of my friends who sought safer, regulated cannabis alternatives.
The federal THC ban provision, recently enacted through a continuing resolution, represents one of the most sweeping and economically devastating restrictions on hemp-derived products. It's crucial for the industry and consumers that we allow the legal acquisition of regulated and taxed products. This change would not only support thriving legal cannabis and hemp markets but also provide safe alternatives to illegal street drugs, protecting lives and livelihoods.
Hemp farmers and businesses across America are suffering due to these unnecessary restrictions. According to a report from the Hemp Business Journal, the U.S. hemp industry was valued at over $1.2 billion in 2019, supporting thousands of American jobs. However, maintaining such vitality is impossible under the current federal restrictions.
We urge the U.S. Congress and the President to listen to the voices of hemp farmers, business owners, and consumers. Amend or repeal the THC ban provision to support the American economy and the well-being of our communities. With regulated legal products, we can ensure consumer safety, boost the economy, and substantially reduce the potential harm from unregulated substances.
Stand with us in protecting the American hemp industry and ensuring public safety. Please sign this petition to demand the repeal or amendment of the THC ban provision for a healthier, safer, and more prosperous America.
