Every week, I, along with countless students at my school, benefit from the free school lunch program that provides us with nutritious meals essential for our learning and well-being. However, this vital service is now at risk of disruption due to planned layoffs and a reduction in working hours for our dedicated cafeteria workers.

These workers do more than just prepare food for us; they create a welcoming environment and are an integral part of our educational experience. Many students rely on these meals as a key source of daily nutrition, ensuring that they can focus in class and perform well academically. The prospect of layoffs threatens to undermine the effectiveness of this program, leading to longer wait times, reduced food options, and potentially, an inability to keep up with the demand for meals.
