I go to Martin Luther King Jr. Academic Magnet High School, where every student deserves to feel safe and respected. Unfortunately, this is not the case. I have personally witnessed a disturbing pattern of behavior carried out by one of our teachers, Micheal Gabrys, or as the students refer to him, “Grabby Gabrys”. Mr. Gabry’s has repeatedly touched female students inappropriately and unprofessionally during class, and it has made many of us feel uncomfortable and unsafe. It pains me to say that this is not an isolated incident. This teacher has already been under investigation twice, and yet he remains employed at our school. This ongoing problem raises significant concerns about the safety and well-being of all students.

According to data from the U.S. Department of Education, approximately 10% of students report experiencing inappropriate sexual conduct by school staff during their school years. This is alarming and is something that cannot be ignored. A safe educational environment is a fundamental right for every student, and it’s crucial that action is taken against those who violate this right.

It's time for the school management, board members, and local authorities to act decisively. Our school should be a safe haven for learning, not a place of fear and anxiety. The administration must prioritize a thorough and transparent investigation, ensuring that such behavior is met with appropriate consequences, up to and including termination of employment for this teacher.
