Protect Students and Whistleblowers in Baltimore City Public Schools

Protect Students and Whistleblowers in Baltimore City Public Schools
The Issue
In 2023, I witnessed a deeply disturbing incident: a school principal physically hit a child. As a mandated reporter and school secretary, I did what I was legally and morally obligated to do—I reported the abuse.
Instead of addressing the child’s safety or holding the principal accountable, Baltimore City Public Schools (BCPS) retaliated against me. I was targeted, silenced, and eventually terminated. The investigation into the principal's actions was never transparently conducted, while I was denied fair representation by the Baltimore Teachers Union (BTU) and stripped of due process.
False information was submitted to the Maryland Department of Labor to delay my unemployment benefits for five months. My grievance was never taken to arbitration. BTU leadership had a known conflict of interest—holding paid positions with both the union and BCPS—yet refused to defend me against the system they were also employed by. This violation of the Duty of Fair Representation cost me my career, my health, and my financial security.
"I have reached out to U.S. Senator Angela Alsobrooks, a strong voice for justice and children’s rights, to bring this issue to her attention and request federal support. This is not just a local issue — it’s about protecting all children and those who speak up for them."
"Local Officials Acknowledge Our Case — Time to Escalate for Justice"
“After contacting the House Judiciary Committee, their office reached out to Baltimore City Public Schools directly and confirmed that all local appeal routes have been exhausted. They encouraged escalation to the State’s Attorney and the Department of Human Services. This confirms our case is now a matter of public interest and accountability. We are continuing to pursue justice for the children affected and all educators who spoke out to protect them.”
